Skin-reactive properties of different cellular fractions of animal-passed C. jejuni/coli.

چکیده
Polymyxin B treated cell sonicates, cell-free supernatants and outer membrane proteins were prepared from animal-passed, virulence-enhanced strains and original isogenic strains of Cjejuni and tested for dermal toxicity in rabbits. Polymyxin B extracts produced the strongest lesions, but the outer membrane protein from 6 times mouse-passed strains elicited a mild skin reaction. Culture-supernatant did not give any noticeable toxicity, suggesting the presence of insufficient factor required to produce measureable effect. Dermal toxicity clearly differentiated animal-passed strains from unpassed original strains which elicited only a weak response(JPMA 37: 132, 1987).

Potential pathogenic mechanisms of animal-passed virulence-enhanced strains of Campylobacter jejuni/coli.
In order to study the potential pathogenic mechanisms, live cultures, culture-f ilterates and Polymyxin B released extracts from original and animal-passed strains of C jejunh/coli were compared by a neonatal mouse infection and in-vitro Vero-Cell cytotoxicity. The cell fractions from mouse-passed strains elaborated strong cytotonic and cytotoxic activity causing elongation, granular appearance...
متن کاملA Molecular Survey of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter Coli Virulence and Diversity
Background: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of virulence-associated genes and enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR (ERIC-PCR) analysis of Campylobacter spp. isolated from children with diarrhea in Iran. Methods: A total of 200 stool specimens were obtained from children under 5 years during July 2012 to July 2013. Detection of C. jejuni and C. coli was perfo...
متن کاملDetection of cytolethal distending toxin (cdt) Genes in Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli isolated from the intestinal of commercial broiler chickens, turkey and quail of Iran
Background: Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli are zoonotic bacteria which are frequently associated with human diarrhea. Sharing of the cytolethal distending toxin (cdt) genes in Campylobacter is common and is considered species specific. OBJECTIVES: In this study we focused on detecting the presence of cdt gene in C. jejuni and C. coli isolated from broilers, turkeys and quails of Ir...
متن کاملInvestigation of Virulence-Associated genes and Cytolethal Distending Toxin Production in Campylobacter spp. isolated from broilers
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of virulence and Cytolethal Distending Toxin (CDT) genes in the Campylobacter isolates from intestinal contents and gall bladders of broilers and, to evalute their cytotoxic effects on HeLa cell cultures. These genes play important roles in bacterial adherence to intestinal mucosa, flagella-mediated motility, invasive capability and the ab...

Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli are the main causes of gastrointestinal diseases in humans even in industrialized countries affecting public health. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the occurrence and antibiotic resistance of C. jejuni and C. coli in chicken meat, beef, mutton and water buffalo meat slaughtered in Ahvaz city, Iran. A total of 380...
